Caeleb Dressel is an American swimmer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest swimmers of the modern era. As of August 2021, he had also held the American long course records in the 50 m freestyle, the 100 m freestyle, the 50 m butterfly, and the 100 m butterfly events. He had also held the short course records in the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle, the 100-yard butterfly, and the 200-yard individual medley events.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he had become the 5th American to win 5 or more ‘Gold’ medals at a single edition of the Olympics, in the past 50 years. Mark Spitz (swimming, 1972 Munich Summer Olympics), Eric Heiden (speed skating, 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics), Matt Biondi (swimming, 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics), and Michael Phelps (swimming, 2004 Athens Summer Olympics, 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, and 2016 Rio Summer Olympics) are the others to have achieved this feat.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he had also become the first swimmer in history to win the ‘Gold’ medal in the 50 m freestyle, the 100 m freestyle, and the 100 m butterfly events at a single edition of the Olympics.
